Early College Students Win Environmental Debate

This comes to us from Piper Hendrix, the Instructional Facilitator at Early College of Forsyth:

Early College is extremely proud of our Debate Team of Michelle Cho and Aisha Riddick, who won the Environmental Debate Tournament hosted by the Piedmont Environmental Alliance and Wake Forest Debate.

The debate topic was "Should we ban cars in the downtown area?"

The final round of the tournament was held at the 2019 Piedmont Earth Day Fair at the fairgrounds Saturday, April 13.

The students’ coach was Alison Wright, who teaches science.

"Going into the debate, I was just excited to have my students engaging with environmental issues in our community, and thankful to Piedmont Environmental Alliance and Wake Forest for providing this venue,” Wright said. “I had never coached a debate team before, so I didn't know what to expect.”

“The girls really deserve all the credit for this. I'm so proud of them!"

Cho is a sophomore and Riddick is a freshman.

The tournament consisted of 50 rounds of debate and involved 70 students from six high schools. Mayor Allen Joines presented the tournament trophy.
