In a recent MathCounts competition, a
team of students from Hanes Magnet School placed first. Hanes also
took first place in the countdown round and fielded the top three individuals.
“We will have five competitors at
the state level on March 17,” said Adam Cross, the math teacher who coaches the
math club.
In
a note to Cross, Velvet Simington, the K-12 Mathematics Program Director,
wrote: “Congratulations to the Hanes Magnet School Math Counts Team! Many thanks to you and your wife as math
teachers who coach the team because it requires focused preparation to achieve
these results! We are certainly proud of the accomplishment.”
