Paisley Student Wins Oratorical Competition

This comes to us from Marshall Marvelli, who teaches English I and II at Paisley IB Magnet School:

On Saturday, Emi Curia, 14, a Paisley IB Magnet School freshman, won first place and a $2,500 college scholarship at the 2018 Optimist International Oratorical Competition in Hendersonville.

Curia, who is the daughter of Michael and Mutsuko Curia, is the fourth Paisley student to win the scholarship.

The event at Kanuga Conference Center was the final meet for seven student finalists at which they presented their original orations. The competitors had been the winners at two earlier rounds of local and zone/regional competitions that began a month ago with more than 300 North Carolina middle and high school students.

Optimist International is a community service organization that focuses its efforts on local community youth. They are best known for their youth sports programs such as soccer.
