On Thursday morning, Kemi Egbewole was at Main Street
Academy giving the school another day of her time as a volunteer.
Main Street is an alternative school. Egbewole volunteers
there because she knows what it’s like to go through some of the things they are
doing through and wants to do what she can to help them.
“I went to an alternative school to get my GED,” she
said.
That was when she was living in Atlanta.
What does she like about volunteering?
“Meeting the students – seeing a lot of myself in them,” she
said.
Her message to them is that they can make it through
whatever they are dealing with.
Egbewole was named the school’s Volunteer of the Year for
2015-16 and they added her name to the “Outstanding Volunteers” plaque that
hangs in the lobby.
