Jefferson Elementary Student Wins at Region Math Fair


Rachit Chandrakul, who is a fourth-grader at Jefferson Elementary School, won first place in the Elementary Division at the N. C. Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ 2019 Central Region Math Fair.

His project was called "Age & Weights are Just Numbers.” 

The math fair was held March 2. Comments from judges included “excellent oral presentation,” “excellent understanding of concept,” and “answers questions well.”

Rachit will now compete at the State Math Fair on May 3 in Durham. 

Rachit’s parents are Gauri Kulkarni and Prafulla Chandra.

Rachit also participated in the District Elementary Science Fair in January. He called his project “From Food to a Bio Plastic: A Healthy Solution for Plastic Pollution.”

At the science fair, Rachit said that, one day, he would like to become an astronomer.
