The Joy of Giving at Meadowlark Middle

At the holidays each year, the members of the 8th Grade Mountaineers Team at Meadowlark Middle organize the "Joy of Giving Project."

As a way of thanking custodians and people who work in the cafeteria, students, parents and guardians, teachers, and other members of the Meadowlark community donate gifts for them.

“It is such a lesson in the ‘Joy of Giving,’ which is why I gave it that name, said Iris Mudd, who teaches eight-grade science.

“Not only do these people appreciate the thoughtfulness of this act of kindness, the students always talk about what a good feeling it is to be a part of sharing with others.”

The students put the gift cards and other goodies into gift bags. The members of the eighth-grade team delivered the gift bags to the cafeteria staff and the two lead custodians, and students sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."

“They love being a part of seeing how happy the gift-bag recipients are,” Mudd said. “It is such a blessing to me to be a part of this.”
