Sherwood Forest Elementary Celebrates a LOVE of READING!

·       A Book Fair is the most loved and best known venue for motivating kids to read MORE!  And, WE all know that successful school-wide events, especially book fairs, are always group efforts!

·        This year’s overwhelming generosity, tireless efforts, and support, by the Sherwood Forest PTA, Students and Staff, made it possible for 700 children and 40 classrooms to receive books and school supplies!

·        In addition, the school raised over 2,000 dollars to support the Scholastic “ALL FOR BOOKS” Program—a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children, families and teachers all over the world acquire books and educational resources.

·        This year’s Scholastic Book Fair theme: “DINO-MITE…Stomp, Chomp, and READ!” was so much fun to bring to life!
o   The Media Center was transformed into Jurassic Park!
o   Kindergarteners enjoyed the game, “Pin the tail on T-Rex”.
o   Clifford the Big Red Dog made visits to classrooms delivering books!
o   Our school’s community partners, Forsyth County Public Library and  Winston-Salem DASH Baseball Team Mascot, Bolt, joined us to celebrate reading during our Family Literacy Night Event (Feb. 7th)
o   Even the Sherwood Forest Principal Jacob Lowther got involved in promoting this year’s book fair theme by appearing on the school’s morning news show wearing a light-up dinosaur bike helmet! The bike helmet was raffled-off later that night at Sherwood’s 2nd Annual Daddy & Daughter Dance (Feb. 1).
