In addition to being the graphic design
specialist for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, Timothy Porter is a
painter and a potter.
You can now see one of Porter’s paintings on a
billboard on U.S. 52 South.
For its ArtPop program, The Arts County of Winston-Salem
& Forsyth County chose work by five area artists to post on local billboards.
Porter is one of them. His piece “Fall Feeding”
is now on display on a billboard near the Waughtown Street exit.
When you see the sign for the exit, look to the left.
It’s on a billboard on the other side of the highway.
“There are three things in the painter – the
eye, the mind and the hand,” Porter said. “Each of them should aid the other.
“This is how I always approach my canvas as I
prepare to paint, realizing that ‘Art is a harmony parallel with nature.’ And
the awareness of our strength makes us modest.
“Painting is darn difficult - you always think
you've got it, but you haven't. So it has a way of humbling you.”
The billboard space is being donated by Fairway
Outdoor Advertising.
