On Wednesday, staff
members at Walkertown Elementary School staff trimmed the Angel Tree to kick
off the gift of giving.
With the assistance of five businesses and
faith-based organizations and the staff at Walkertown Elementary School,
families within the community and surrounding area will have something to smile
about on Dec. 25, said Yolanda Childs, the school’s parent involvement
coordinator.
“The school is working with Reynolds Tobacco
Co., Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, the Pilot Mountain Baptist
Association and Destiny’s Discount Toy Store,” Childs said. “In total, there
will be 17 families that will benefit from the plethora of Angels who truly
believe in the gift of giving and making the season bright for others. Walkertown
Elementary School realizes that it truly takes a village.
“Everyone wants something to open on
Christmas Day and Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas, without a gift. Thus,
tis the season of gifting, giving and gratefulness but most importantly,
placing a smile on the face of individuals whose experiencing economic
hardship.”
