By Claudette L. Goodwin

On March 25, Carter High School its annual Carter High School Community Campus Yard Sale.

Our school is one of three schools located on Kennedy Campus. We share this campus with Kennedy and the Career Center.  We can be seen from Highway 52 or when exiting 52 N going onto Martin Luther King Drive.

This year at our yard sale we had the BIG CART, Colgate Mobile Unit, a Fire Department Crew, Staff from the Rams Know HOW Mobile Unit, Tru Masters, one of our Local Farmers and community members.  We had tables available to rent for $20.00 a table.  We had food, furniture, clothes, transplants and much more.

The BIG CART was here encouraging the community to buy local and to support those products and foods made or grown in the state of North Carolina. The Colgate Mobile Unit was here with a Dentist and volunteers to give free dental screenings to any child under the age of 13 with at least one tooth.

The Fire Crew brought handouts for kids as well as information on receiving free smoke alarms and fire suppression devices. The firefighters had information cards for residents to complete and give back to the fire fighters who would later be contacted for installation of units.

The Rams Know HOW Mobile Unit was here to give free Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Screenings; as well as take height, weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI) readings. They also were here to give Glucose Screenings; checking for early signs of sugar diabetes. Ken Vanhoy from Rail Fence Farm had a wonderful assortment of both cold and warm weather transplants available for purchase.

We had an awesome time. We look forward to making it an even bigger community event next year and would like to encourage more people to come out to join us either through participation as a vendor, buyer, seller, or spectator.

Next year our annual yard sale will be held March 24, 2018, from 8:00 a.m. to noon, here on our campus located at 851 Highland Court. All are welcome.

The Goodwill truck will be made available prior to our event for donations which again go toward supporting our local community. To all who participated in any way, shape or form we say thank you. Our school has been sponsoring this event for more than 15 years, and we hope to continue at least 15 more. This event benefits our 4-H and Agriculture programs as well as our graduating seniors and others throughout the year.
