Teachers in Winston-Salem/Forsyth
County Schools are invited to the annual Teacher Night at the Southeastern
Center for Contemporary Art.
Scheduled for 4 to 8:30 p.m. on
Tuesday Feb. 24, the night features Lois Hetland, the author of Studio Thinking: The Real Benefits of Visual
Arts Education
Admission is free.
All galleries will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. and Hetland is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m.
Her visit is co-sponsored by the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Teacher night is an evening for all educators to grab
materials that connect contemporary art to the classroom, take a tour of the
exhibitions and socialize with colleagues over food, beer, and wine. Come early
for the open house from 4 to 7 p.m. and stay for the keynote address by Hetland.
Lois Hetland, Ed.D, Professor at the Massachusetts College
of Art and Design and Senior Research Affiliate at Project Zero, Harvard
Graduate School of Education, was trained in music and visual arts. Hetland was
an elementary and middle school classroom teacher for 17 years. An endowed
scholarship has been established in her name and is awarded annually to a
public school teacher to attend Project Zero’s annual summer institute at
Harvard Graduate School of Education.
