Mineral Springs Middle Students Turn Letters to the President into Art

To read the story about the art/civics project at Mineral Springs Middle, go to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools

On Wednesday morning, Mineral Springs Middle students were having enriching experiences in other classrooms as well.

Kim Bounds is the Band, Piano and Music Director at Mineral Springs, and, thanks to a grant from The Arts Council of Winston-Salem, Karl Kassner, who plays with the Winston-Salem Symphony, comes to the school to work with her students who play trumpet and trombone.

In the band room, Kassner was working with half a dozen students. It’s a great experience for the students, Bounds said.

“The students get to work with someone that plays their instrument professionally. Along with improving their playing ability, he introduces them to the idea that they could do this as a profession, if they wanted to put in the work to do so.”

Tony Frye is the Technology Teacher at Mineral Springs. In his classroom, students were working on such projects as building bridges and Lego robots.
