This comes to us from Denise
W. McCoy, the Parent Involvement Coordinator at Kimmel Farm Elementary:
On March 1, 32 people from the community came to Kimmel Farm
Elementary to read to students.
Students heard
about the importance of reading and the importance of education from a diverse
group of people, said Denise W. McCoy, the Parent Involvement Coordinator at Kimmel Farm
Elementary.
“Guests took the time from their busy
schedules to stress this and have some fun.”
Readers included a
judge, the Clerk of Court, a professor at Winston-Salem State University, a
police officer, business people, parents, grandparents, Kenneth Simington,
who is serving as interim superintendent for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County
Schools, and Instructional Superintendent Rusty Hall.
Assistant Principal Malinda Kerns and McCoy organized the event.
Guests read from 9
a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Assistant Principal Malinda Kerns and McCoy organized the event.
“No one called to cancel on a pouring rainy day....,” McCoy said.
