World-Renowned Cyclist Visits Speas

On Friday, world-renowned cyclist Kristin Armstrong visited students at Speas Global Elementary School. Here is what Katryna Jacober, the school’s Instructional Facilitator, had to say:

At Speas Global, Ms. Armstrong spoke to our third- through fifth-graders about the importance of having good character. In the Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, Kristin won Gold Medals in the Time Trials, U.S. women's cycling.

Each Olympic Games taught her something new:

“You have to have a team behind you.”

“We all have difficulties...it’s how we respond to them…It goes back to your character.”

“Go after whatever you want to go after in life.”

“If people ask you why, say ‘Because I can.’”

“When life knocks you down, remember you have a new day to start again. Get back up. Believe in yourself.”

“Be a friend and believe in your friends.”

“Give it back!”

Those are just some of the quotes I tweeted during her presentation.

Kristin Armstrong is the most decorated U.S. women's cyclist of all time and the best time-trialist in sports history.
