At
the Carolina Panthers game on Dec. 13, the Color Guard of the Reagan High
School Air Force JROTC presented the colors.
At
the beginning of the 2014-15 school year, Maj. Mark Benyo applied for the
opportunity to present the colors as a Panthers game. In May, the Panthers
invited them to do that on Dec. 13.
“The
Panthers’ organization made it very easy as they relayed pertinent information
throughout and walked us through the whole process once we arrived,” Benyo said. “They
are a great group of professional people dedicated to ensuring that the
organization is represented well.
“We
had to arrive at 0945 on game day to begin practice at 1000. We were only
allowed about 15 minutes total time to practice and prepare for the
presentation at 1300. The field is used for a variety of events prior to
the game, so we’re only afforded that little bit of time.
“We
then returned to the waiting room for entertainers, had a nice lunch provided
by them, and waited our turn. We then head out to the tunnel around 1225
and begin the walk down to the field. We remain on the sidelines right on
the home team side along with the players. We then walk out a couple of
minutes prior to game start and commence to present the colors. Once we
are finished, then we head to our seats and enjoy the rest of the game.”
